Hi,
I am currently reviving my Rapid Fire scenario effort. My 46 year old brain suddenly understood how the scripts were laid out and with considerable effort I've banged together a small mod that has a few units and some reinforcements.
Now, the reinforcements call for a Sexton. A Priest is a close match but it comes in American colors only. How does one reskin the thing to look like English colors in NW Europe? Is there a tutorial to do this?
Thanks,
John

Re: Changing unit color (texture?)
It's pretty simple IF you don't need to have a Priest in the scenario as well. You can override the unit texture by placing a new texture into a DATA\BATTLE\UNITTEXTURES folder inside your campaign. Then just override the string in your campaign string file and voila! Sexton.
Any problems let me know.

Thanks for the reply Pip.
The file exchange seems easy enough. Can you give me a pseudo example of what goes into the Campaign String file?

Re: Changing unit color (texture?)
You would place a line in the text1.txt file in your campaign that was
IDS_UNITNAME35, "Sexton",
this will replace the string that the Priest usually uses, and give it the correct name on the map. If the player will be able to choose the unit on the force screen, you may want to override the IDS_UNITINFO35 string too, which is shown there. You can see the current contents of the strings in the DATA\TEXT\TEXT1.TXT file in the installer folder.

Thanks Pip! Still at work (USA). I'll try tonight when the kiddies are in bed.

Re: Changing unit color (texture?)
Seems to have worked! I originally used one that Ameris used with his random battle scenarios. It left the vehicle Olive and placed a triangle on the tank. Pretty good but I wanted the dark camo scheme so I used the firefly and renamed it priest.dds. That worked but there is no triangle. As I write, I am now remembering that there is one in Market Garden that IS a priest. The scenario in general works fine. I'll post to the forum soon.

Re: Changing unit color (texture?)
So, as above, my basic scenario is done and gives a surprisingly good game. I played it 5 times in a row last night and the Germans took 4 out of 5 from me and I consider myself to be a very good player at this point! I'll post what I have in the Scenario design section tonight.

Cool! Once you have had some people kick it around and you are happy it is solid and balanced, then we can make it available ingame if that is something you would like.

Re: Changing unit color (texture?)
That would be great! There are something like 17 scenarios in the book. They are broken into 4-5 sets I think. So I will add this and probably 2-3 others that are situated in the Ardennes and Holland. It will be a while.pipfromslitherine wrote:Cool!
