Sluggish performance

I am having the same problem as several others have posted about. The game starts and plays well but performance just craters a few turns into the game. Before I quit in frustration tonight I was getting 4 fps.

This is not a game I would expect to be graphically demanding. My rig should be more than adequate to run it.

I've run the game in full screen. I've run it in several lower resolutions. Shadows on and shadows off. Nothing fixes the problem.

Performance degrades with time. This does not sound like a problem with my hardware or drivers but rather something not well managed in the program itself. Of course I could be totally wrong.

Any help would be appreciated. As things stand this wonderful game is ruined by this problem.

We only see this behaviour with a tiny number of players, so I don't think it is a general game problem. I'm also (from memory) pretty sure that every person having the issue is running an nVidia video card. There have been ongoing issues with the DX9 nVidia driver support for dynamic textures, and even though the game attempts to work around these, they could be causing issues. Your system does indeed seem to be powerful enough to deal with the game easily.

The next update includes a new appraoch to the text rendering, which is one of the major users of dynamic textures, and so it is possible it would solve this problem.

A couple of things I would ask.

(1) have you tried running in a window? Does the same thing happen? (A full resolution window will be identical to fullscreen, so could be a temporary solution).
(2) have you tried ALT+TABing in and out of the game when it slows down? Does this change anything?

Sorry this is interfering with your play. If you are open to it, I might try sending you an alpha version of the next update, to see if it does indeed help with the issue.

If by running in a window you mean did I deselect the full screen option in the launcher screen then the answer is yes. I find that the game behaves in a way in which I am unfamiliar when I do that. Instead of what I think of as a window, it runs in the upper left corner of the monitor (if at a lower resolution than my monitor) instead of in a bordered window as one would expect.

I have not tried ALT-Tabbing. I will do so at my next opportunity.

An alpha of the next update? That sounds a bit risky, but why not? Send away if you think it's worth a try. I am waiting for a resolution to this issue before I buy Sealion.

You folks have quite a gem in this game. it takes me back to my old days as a board gamer back in the 1970's. Yeah, I've been around the block a few times in my gaming career.



Are you considering some east front campaigns? That would be worth the price of a full game to me.

Any alpha would simply be a version you could run alongside your install to see if it solves the issues you are having. It wouldn't affect your main game. Or we might make it to the open beta phase quickly enough that you can use the installer.

Glad you are enjoying the game otherwise. Eastern Front is definitely on our minds, but we are having trouble trying to determine the most interesting areas of the campaign, while keeping it to a doable size!
