GC39 Completed.

Post by Muddy »

I have just completed the grand campaign 39, and would like to congratulate the devs on a job well done.
I was totally engrossed, every map was different, interesting and challenging, not to mention a AI that always does the unexpected.

This is the ONLY, dlc I have ever bought for game that was actually worth the money. Thank you. :D

Now I must go. The year is 1940, and my heroic and brave core units are once more, called to battle.

You did, you did, and I should have listened to you first time around. :)
GC40, is way harder than 39, but fortunately I have gotten better at the game, so I am managing to get through it with some form of victory.
I think I would have been dead meat if I had gone straight to GC40.

I have just come across my first bad scenario... 'Stonne the French' It is really, really, really boring. Luckily I had a choice of mission so was able to load a previous save and choose the other scenario. Only thing I can think of, is that the dev was having a bad day, when he made Stonne the French. :P
Can I expect to come across any more scenarios like this? If I know in advance, then I can give them a miss if possible.

Arras on the British path, but you won't play that one unless you go backwards. IIRC Reims is a meatgrinder, and there's no avoiding it.

Keep in mind that what it looks like the dev was doing there with the Stonne scenario was putting in a scenario that wouldn't eat up your core. The next scenario on the French path, Wassigny, can be an absolute meat-grinder (there's plenty of posts in the forum on that one). What you termed bad is really an attempt to get your core some experience without devastating it. In the later DLC's you'll notice that a scenario like Stonne is a heads-up that a real toughie is to follow...

And what robman said about Reims is accurate. Reims is part of the overall path, no matter if you take the French or British fork. The British path in 1940 is, arguably, the tougher choice.

I quite like the defensive hold-the-line scenarios, like the one I am playing now "Arras" But up to now, every scenario has felt like a epic battle, that is part of a epic campaign, then you have "Stoone" which for me, seemed more in line with a no-brainer arcade game.

There is always one bad apple, and having one bad scenario doesn't stop me loving PC any less. I just wish that the devs didn't see the need to bung in fillers, it spoils the flow of the game.

Oh, and thanks for all of the advice, I do take note of it all, and slowly becoming a kick-arse general..

Reims is very nice, as it can be completed in more than one way. You can either choose the classic attrition battle with the French forces or advance quickly towards objectives while containing the French so you can complete the scenario much sooner and avoid heavy losses :)

Yes, that's exactly right. I played "classic attrition" the first time, and got clobbered. The second time, I took the "containment" route and clobbered the French. Pay VERY close attention to the briefing.
