Skirmishers in building

Post by CLAVDIVS »

Hi All,
Had this on Sunday in the quick start game a unit of skirmishers (Austrian Grenzers) are in the Building and defending it, the French player declares a assault at the Grenzers,

1, do the Grenzers Avade, or can the Grenzers stand and fire at the chargers

All we could find in the rules is that the skirmishers must avade from formed troop’s page 30.

Buildings are on page 76 to 78.

2, and what is tactical formation for skirmishers please.

I believe you only are forced to evacuate a building if you break. I think that your skirmishers would automatically go back to tactical formation (page 85 3rd paragraph "infantry formations") which is either 2 wide for small or 3 wide for large unit. Skirmishers only evade if they are in the open, and occupying a building is pretty much as "un open" as one can get

'Defending' a building is a atype of formation (as opposed to skirmishing or tactical) - Page 76. They therefore do not evade when charged. In fact they can't evade.
"Units defending a building will only leave it from an outcome move if they are broken" Page 77
