TYW French army

Post by sebastosfig80 »

Hi everyone.
In the TYW French army list, we can read in the notes:
" if any regimental guns are used at least as many sup BG must have them as Average BG"

Does this mean that if I have 5 infantry BG, 2 of them superior and 3 of them average, one of the average can't be equipped with regimental guns?

I recall reading that French army experimented with regimental guns in the TYW but then discarded them afterwards

But does it mean that if you don't take any superior battle groups then you are forbidden any regimental guns at all?

Yes, that's what it means. But since they're probably the best troops you can have, why would you not have them?

I've just seen the other thread on this in which 2 of the authirs confirm that the restrictions as currently written aren't in line with their intentions, although the errata hasn't caught up with this yet. I think thats' one for you to resolve with your list checker.

It's here. The subject was raised some time ago but has never been covered in an errata.

Thanks Kevin.

So it means;

1) If you have no superior bgs you can take as many rgs as you like.

or

2) you can take only as many average rg bgs as you have superior rg battle groups. i.e. 2 superior with rgs means only up to two average bgs with rgs. No superior with rgs means no average with rgs.

or

3) If you have average bgs with rgs, then if you have superior bgs, at leaast as many of them must have rgs. i.e. you can have as many average bgs with rgs as you can afford, but any supeior bgs must also have rgs.

or

4) Something completely different.

So thats all clear then :?

I think:

This is the current position as written in the Army List book.

If you have average bgs with rgs, then if you have superior bgs, at least as many of them must have rgs. i.e. you can have as many average bgs with rgs as you can afford, but any superior bgs must also have rgs.
If you have no superior bgs you can take as many rgs as you like.
I think this is close to the Author's intended position. I think essentially the intent is that you cannot have more Average BGs with RGs than Superior BGs with RGs, unless all Superior BGs in the army have RGs.

This was always may interpretation. i presumed it was a mechanism to prevent players taking superior without rgs but average with them.
