Kharkov 43: I had to restart this one after 7-8 turns. I put so many offensive forces going to claim objectives and left too few to defend the river crossings. I underestimated Soviet forces on that side of the river. Several units came from a direction that I was not expecting. They captured and held one of my objectives. I was caught completely by surprise and out of position. I am not proud of having to do a restart.
Belgorod: I do not remember having many problems with this one (although one of the objectives gave me tons of trouble capturing). After the previous map, I didn't underestimate Soviet strength across the river.
Orel: I'm pleased that I got a chance to use trains. Up until now, they just felt like a McGuffin. Nothing more than a plot point. Something to attack or defend. No real purpose other than that. I made a terrible error on this map. I stopped the Soviet offensive effectively and efficiently. I took almost no casualties. With only a few turns left, I felt confident I had broke the enemy and proceeded quickly to my objectives. I never saw that third wave coming till it hit me square in the face. I immediately lost 2-3 core units and had several more severely hurt.
Ponyri: I found this map to be tedious and annoying. Not because of design, but because I really did not have a good handle of strategy for this one. I tried to take everything instead of just the objectives. The enemy was coming from several places and I never felt as if I had enough units. I had to bypass some dug in positions and go for the objectives. Although I got a DV on this one, I still had a hard time.
Olkhavatka: Why did I go north? Why did I go north?
Kursk Armory North: As much trouble as I had dislodging some of the units I decided that I had probably picked the wrong route. I had been slowly bleeding infantry and my infantry core was not quite as strong as it was. Good rewards though.
Prohkorovka: This map was a lot of fun. Good variety of terrain and an offensive from several sides. But I never felt like I had enough units. The 3 PzIVs I had brought to the map were toast. I suppose that is to be expected. I knew when I was converting all the T-34s to Pz 3s and 4s I was giving them sub-par equipment, but I wanted at least a bit of historical accuracy. My 2 PzIIIs are still doing good in an infantry support role. I felt forced to purchase some self-propelled AA to compliment my 88s. I'm very glad I did. It racked up 65 kills in the last half of 43.
Dnipropetrovsk: I accidentally won this map by turn 6. My supply of Pz 3s and 4s diminished I was mostly using tigers. At first I was disappointed, but then I decided that I would take the really easy victory and the easy prestige and run. Easy victories have been hard to come by. I took almost no damage for once, so I was able to just bank the prestige for later.
Kremenchug: I never had enough units or ammo for this map. For the second time in DLC 43 trains were useful. The briefing said that units were using barges – but they just never stopped coming! I was not initially prepared for the sheer volume of units coming from that direction. After stopping the offensive I waited the turns out. I didn't pick a fight I did not have to.
Kiev 43: Things were going awesome on this map. I had great units in great defensive positions. They didn't stand a chance. I was feeling good about another easy victory. When I wore them out I crossed the river to take my objectives. That is when the computer used a cheat code against me!!!
