Don Bobolio's Doom I (Posted!)(Resized)

Post by Blathergut »

(I posted these last night but the postings were lost in the crash/attack.)

A sampling of the Weimarians slated to face the Spanish swarms this Saturday.

And the all-musket BG:

I will see if the noble Don is up for an AAR this Saturday.

Of course Don bobolio will be up to an AAR of such momentous importance. We hope to show the world that heretical thoughts will only lead to their armies demise, and we get to show off some nice new toys

Before the Battle (Diary Entry of Blather von Gut):

Scouts' reports are vague but mention a Spanish army on the move. That will no doubt include some battle-hardened veterans in those cursed tercios. Past experience has shown that massive wings of horse are ineffective against the tercios, even if they win on the flanks, since the tercios bristle their pikey doom in all directions. It has been decided that we will move to intercept them with the foote of Our army, keeping the majority of the horse out of this coming battle, at a safe distance, ready to follow up the enemy as he routs.
Scouts also report sighting some large Spanish cannons. We have a stratagem in place to help Our foote regiments avoid the dastardly Spanish cannonballs (although Our heroic dragoons may find the day to be a difficult one).

Initial set-Up and Moves

The German idea had been to arrive with little horse, since we expected the Spanish to field superior and elite Later Tercio 9paks. Instead they arrived with 6paks! Our left was anchored on a village just to centre left, and all our infantry was packed into our centre and right. The Spanish, not wanting to fight the masses, deployed on their right as well, and a massive rotation ensued!

That's it! :)

The Later Germans with Weimarian allies proved to be a tough army. It fields 5 superior 6paks (one all-muskets) and all with regimental guns. It gave out a great deal of fire power at times. The dragoons proved to be effective artillery shields but did need room to finally run away! The superior LF were disappointing in this battle, but should have been sent to delay those tercios wheeling around the plantation instead of playing in front of the Spanish heavy artillery. All in all, I'd run it again against the Spanish with only minor tweaks.

Great report! Even as His Most Catholic Majesty won´t be happy with the outcome of the battle.

Did the elite tercio even get to fight?

One of two did, down behind the second artillery BG. If that hadn't been top quality it would not have had much chance there as things turned out. The other didn't see action, as I remember. But it was a very close game. It swung back and forth a couple times.
