missing army...lost in post

Post by chubooga »

sold two 28mm WW2 armies on ebay, day or so after they were posted fella contacted me saying that they were missing and asked for refund....

my wife kindly posted them for me and didnt get proof of posting........... yes, can you see whats coming :(

it appears that the armies have gone missing on the way to slough, berkshire...I have the name and address..... Im surprised because Ive posted thousands of packages over the years and never once has one gone missing, shame its the one that doesnt have Proof of posting on it............

anyway, armies look like this:

pretty much DAK and British paras in 28mm............. someone must know where they are!
pass the word around if you can gents... it seems my toys have gone missing!

Pm me any details please, really hoping the community can help me on this.... though I know Proof of posting is advised

I sent a FOG army to a chap in Germany, well the wife did. 3 weeks later I was working in Kenya when I got the dreaded email! When my wife posted the package she was informed it woyuld probably take about 4 days. I had posted an army to the same chap a few months before without a problem.

The PO suggested we wait a full 5 weeks before taking any action. The day before 5 weeks was up I received an email from Germany, the chaps had arrived a couple of days before! If he said they were missing the day after posting I think he is being a bell end, tell him to wait!

I did ask him to wait, he has waited another 3-4 days and has asked for refund again........... whether its right or not, he is legalyl within his rights to ask for refund immediatly it is late... he does promise to pay for them after refund if they do turn up again late.... obviously this would be a very honest thing for him to do as legally I would not have any way to make him pay or even know if they have or have not turned up............

just kinda hoping I can get some peace of mind from what I believe to be a very honest wargaming community by finding the army, or finding someone from slough/berkshire way who can vouch for my trading partner.

Brand new army paid for by the missus?

Gotta say this is a real nightmare with ebay, had a few close shaves myself and have now trained the boys to make sure they get full tracking details for anything they take to the post office.

I wish you luck, but if he's demanding a refund so quickly...

Regards,

Dave

what was the promised delivery time in the ebay auction?

From experience he may just be playing by the ebay rules as they give you a rather short window to dispute claims. I have been burned by waiting too long & the window expires, so he may just be doing the same.

all good points gents.... listing said postage within 24hrs of paying, package went first class... day after it was due he contacted me, yes I agree, totally within the law.

Im just hoping I can find the army, the money or someone who knows a wargamer in slough/berkshire area and can vouch for him so I can get peace of mind as I recognise it doesnt have to be a scam, it can be a legitimate failure in the system.....

Change that to 3-5 days! What if you are sick or the car breaks down?

generally in the US or UK postal order regulations , you have 30 days for mail order delivery before you can open a complaint.

I have had numerous dealings on ebay and that all items posted should be made by Recorded Delivery or by Special Delivery as there are numerous crooks buying and selling on Ebay. They pretend not to receive the goods even though they have on high value.
