probably not being such a large BG, but I have considered it as 2 superior keils/tercios locked in a death embrace is just hoping for better dice. An advantage like elites, rerolling 1-3 with a general and hitting on 4's is a way to break that stalemate
Clear the battlefield and let me see

Steve Hammond seems to find them rather useful but that was in the days when they could be used in the squeeze box formation...

I have used mostly the Armoured Superiors but when my opponent faced them off with HW troops I used one as unarmoured but elite which still gave them the edge to steamroller.

To be fair to Steve, he never used them as anything but proper keils.

You should also consider their extraordinary capacity to soak up casualties and to maintain/recover morale.

I've had a bg of 10 armoured elites shot down to 4 bases and still tear it's way through an average 6pak. On the other hand, I've also had a bg of 14 shot to autobreak by a combination of artillery and dragoons.

It is, as they say, a game of skill...

Well...

At Britcon he used the squeeze box most effectively against my Swedes. No complaints from me - it was cracking game and I just was not clever enough to counter it.

This was the practice of deploying pike BGs 2 bases deep in order to reduce artillery effectiveness and to allow them to move to where they were needed to fight using contractions. It was prevented by the most recent errata.

The punishment he larger supior and elite units take is stunning.

We had a game at Cold Wars where an Elite Swiss was fighting an elite tercio. Both side then added in a superior Keil. Everyone had generals. Every turn each side was peeling off 1-2 bases.

Both elites disrupted and bolstered at elast once.

The Swiss paymaster was felled on a 12 and then the Swiss droped to disrupted and then frag and then ran.

But we could have formed 2 BGs with the dead bases alone on each side.
