Siberian troops

Post by Schnurri »

Russia just activated in a 42 Barbarossa. With the new rail rules there is no way to rail the Siberian troops to the front in a timely manner. This isn't as bad a problem for a 42 Barbarossa as it is clear weather but would really slow things down in winter. Could we put a depot near these troops? Also, really difficult to retreat Russian troops without rail capability from the front but not sure this is a problem or not.

Good find. I will have a look at this and move the spawn hexes around an existing rail depot like Nizhniy Tagil.

I changed general.txt so the spawn point for the air and armor units will be around Nizhniy Tagil and the shock units around Syktyvkar. The fix will be out with RC16 that Ronnie and Paul are preparing now.

The fix will not alter ongoing games except that the Siberian units will now spawn around rail depots so they can rail immediately.

RC16 will also contain the updated map / scenarios regarding 2 hexes in Canada. We don't need a change to the code to fix these hexes because players will not move there. This will only be for new games.

This just proves how important it is to playtest when we make changes. We didn't realize that the Siberian reserves were spawned in the middle of nowhere so they wouldn't be where any units could be. But with new rail rules they can't be railed from the spawn location. So the simple solution was to move the spawn location in general.txt.

This means a new patch, but people don't need to install it until they get close to November 1941 in their games.
