new AI aircraft moving in from the "off"

Post by margeorg »

Hello,

in the Yakovlevo scenario I noticed that new AI aircraft are flying in from the "off", i.e. from outside the map. Shouldn´t new AI aircraft respawn at airfields they posess? Also, it seems to me that enemy aircraft can often bypass my own fighters, instead of getting an "unexpected encounter". They even seem to fly directly through a line of my fighters which I have positioned in their line of flight.
Cheers from Frankfurt/Germany

I have had the AI run into unexpected encounters, so it does happen. Aircraft do not exert a zone of control, although that can be changed in a configuration file, so unless they run directly into your plane's hex they will avoid them. That said, I have seen the AI attack targets outside any possibility of spotting, so it might cheat too!

I'm actually pretty good at counting spotting, and from what I could tell, in general the AI does not cheat. If you cleverly hide a fighter cover outside the range of its units, the AI will attack and get shot at by the fighter, although that does open up the rest of your units in that group to further attacks. In general you probably counted spotting incorrectly, as I often do despite making a good effort at doing so.

Actually, thinking about it I think you're right - there was a strongpoint with a spotting range of 5 somewhere around. What amazed me was that the AI went out of its way to attack this target, and what was it? An over strengthened AA unit! Shot it to pieces. :)
