overlapping field fortifications

Post by footslogger »

It doesn't look like there is any restrictions when fighting against field fortifications as an overlap. I want to make sure I haven't missed anything.

If a group is fighting against units defending FF and the group has an overlap, it can add the die for the file?

If it is swordsmen, the POA is ++?

This is true, even if overlapping at the corner of a 90 degree bend in the FF?

Thanks,

Looks like you are good to go. Went through the rules and could not find anything that stops the swords getting ++ in melee, guess they swarm up over the top and in amongst the defenders.
Can't see why corner FF's would prevent an overlap only appears it is blocked by more than one unit attacking a single target and blocking as per page 112.

Not sure what kind of strange things are going through your head but looks like your sinister evil plan is good to go, good luck on it.

I've never used field fortifications but am planning to try them out. I was just thinking about how to deploy them and it looks like bending them back 90 secures from a flank charge but doesn't provide any additional protection. I was concerned there was something somewhere I was missing.

well you still get a + for standing behind it, and do not count as being in open ground so MF is safe from Cav, not to mention your pike opponent does not get the 4th rank bonus since you are not in open ground, and your opponent has to stop 1 MU out before charging in giving you an extra shot at them, that sounds like plenty of protection. What more can you possibly want other than putting them on wheels so you can swing them about as your enemy moves around them on you?

I have never tried them yet either, my opponent just threatens to stand back and not go near them if I use them. Highly unlikely as I don't have any made up yet and I have a figure order arriving hopefully this week.
