What to do with so much prestige?

Post by McRoos »

I'm battling in Russia in the 41 DLC and already have some 10500 prestige left to spend.
But on what ?
Most of my units are level 13 in strength and don't seem to get a higher number.
So what to do with my prestige ?

What difficulty level are you playing on? It sounds like this level is a bit too easy for you. You could restart DLC 41 and increase the difficulty level - that would chew up some prestige. :)

May i ask on which difficulty level are you playing? Possibly you chose a to low setting for your skill which this amount of prestige indicates. You could try to play on higher setting for more challenge. But as a little spoiler: Most people claim DLC41 battles are quite easy, it's historically the time where Germany steamrolled over Russia with not much of an opposition. According to most people DLC42 is a lot harder so you may be a bit more challenged there.

Should you already play on the highest possible difficulty level then congratulations, you are among the very few top players and surpass skill wise the majority of the players the game is designed for but there is still an option for you. You can manually manipulate the game settings to create an own difficulty level that suits yourself. A user here, Deductor, has done the same and seems to have fun on his own settings i sadly fail at searching for the thread where he describes his settings and experience. Maybe someone else can help out here.

Maybe you could start buying and training reserve units? Then you don't have to use all green guys when losing one of your cores

I'm playing on level 3, Colonel, the middle level.
I must say that I had some experience as I am an old PG player.

I don't know, but can I switch the difficulty level during a campaign?

Nope, no switching mid-game. Image

You can change the difficulty at the beginning of each DLC but not mid-DLC.

Getting some infantry and artillery (if you dont already have lots of those) might be a good investment for city scenarios.

But other than that, yes, try to play at General level when you start the next DLC.

Same amount of prestige on Field Marshal level as well. It was painful to obtain it (and keep it) BUT keep in mind that soon you will need to get the Tigers and latter King Tigers!
I am at Stalingrad with 20000 prestige but expect heavy losses it will probably fall down to 15000.

To answer your question SAVE FOR TIGERS!!!

Yeahh right.
I know from the first "small" campaign that you need a lot of prestige to win Bagration.
No Tigers there, is no chance to win.

But, I'm only in front of Moscow and the year is 41, so these guys are not in store right now.

So swithching to a higher level is what I will do.
Also because it is no fun always beating the enemy to nill.

Well upgrading all my stuff to Tigers, Panthers and FW-190s took about 18,000 prestige.

Yup, just got to Kursk Armory South here and in total I have lost 17k prestige yet - no idea how much prestige was gained during the scenarios and from sold tanks (had a fair number from the earlier DLCs, now down to 3). I dare to say I will lose at least another 10k+ till the campaign is over. The attacks on Manstein are pure hell, and only with some luck I have not lost a (core) unit yet, but I have to keep them up at fairly high strength and this costs quite some prestige during a scenario.

The problem is there are so few cities now so you can’t replenish your prestige (like in Stalingrad scenarios). I’m worried about the time when Tiger II comes along (ME 262 as well) – am I going to have enough prestige for upgrade and repair...?

Interesting question. I started the 43 DLC with 34,997 prestige and am down to 15,000 Prestige after Kursk South. Now this does include upgrading all my tanks to either tigers or panthers but still I have burned through almost 20,000 of my saved up prestige and god only knows how much has been gained in the DLC so far!

After a few topics like this, I started the DLC over, well that and had to so something while waiting for 43 to come out lol Few rounds into 41, got 10K, but its not easy to make. Keeping your units experience up while upgrading does take its toll. Running a heaving infantry and towed units core makes it tad harder too.

I'm playing on "General" level......not FM and not "normal" but general level and quite frankly the ai is giving me a heck of a fight. I have to work for all the battles,so as not to drain prestige by taking losses that need replacing or horror of horrors losing a core unit.

Currently still in the DLC 39' campaign at Modlin on what will be my second try through it. I bought the game and first 3 DLC's on Monday. Been playing for x amount of time every day it seems, love the game. But awash in prestige? Not happening for me at all. I lost 2 core units so far in the campaign an infantry and a recon unit.both replaced but there is part of my prestige drain, also i probably have used "elite" replacements far too freely but such is life, who wants to constantly loose the experience of units through attrition?

I'm playing on Rommel and at the beginning of DLC '41 I have ~3000 prestige with all units up to date, but I guess I'll reach a point in 1943 where I can't afford to upgrade everything.

It really helps if you don't start using elite replacements until Norway. This will save you a lot of prestige.
