Xyston cataphracts

Post by frederic »

Hi guys,

I'm building a Graeco Bactrian army with Xyston miniatures for the greek part and Khurasan one for the Iranian/Indian part (to stop playing my Kushan cause such undrilled army is to difficult to play in tournament).

Concerning the Bactrian lancers, I'm looking for armoured horses in order to play them either as Armoured cavalry or Cataphracts.
Looking at the Xyston range it seems there's no Macedonian, nor Successor, armoured horses.
Only the Maccabean range contains armoured horses.

So I would like your opinion.
Should I purchase Maccabean heavy cavalry for the horses and some Macedonian or Successor cavalry for the riders, or are the Maccabean figures suitable for Graeco Bactrian lancers ?

In my opinion Xyston horses are ugly. My suggestion (I have done it myself) is buying the riders from Xyston but the horses from Essex. There you have plenty of options, they mix quite well and the horses will be cheaper for you.

You have this nice horses

In the other hand, I think I heard they have scheduled new releases for the Successors, if you can wait for them. I have just seen this green of the new Seleucid "cataphract" elephant. It is quite impressive
