Hey all

I am both list checker and also playing in this competition.

For this reason I will email my list to everyone upon recipt of their list for checking. This will negate any advantage I could have had by checking everyones list.

This has also forced me to decide on a list now, rather than dithering right up to the last minute, which is probably a good thing.

Regards

BTW when emailing your list in please put 'FOG' in the subject line so I don't miss it.

Looked to be some interesting match-ups. Will we see some results posted soon? (Those of us in gaming exile have to live vicariously through the forum!)

Well i can tell you that Shaun D ended up winning, but had to fight for it all the way, and needed a good win in the last game to seal it. Mark H came second and Kerry D 3rd. The comp was very close - as shown by Shaun being 2nd to 4th at the end of day 1 and 2.

I thought the 8 games of a strict 2.5 hours was good - next time round would concentrate on moving what was important etc as I ran out of time in a few games, and got winning draws where another round could have achieved an army break.

Best army picks - I liked Andre's Warring States and Josh's Aztecs for bringing something different, and both very competitive.

My worst unit was my Thorakatai - wouldn't move, wouldn't fight, waste of space good for nothings! In one fight they had 6 at 4 against 1 at 5, and still lost the combat!
Best unit were my Thracians, who in several games carved straight through full-deal Legions. They even took apart one of Richard S's Legions whilst they were fragged! Go the boys.

Thing to change - I think I put too much faith in the superior pikes, which seemed to let me down in quite a few combats. So try not to put them into those positions, and rear support more consistently with the cav. Also, I lost many generals, so maybe they shouldn't fight in every battle. Some of these losses caused much devastation to my BG's.

Guttsy move - Richard W expanding one men at arms BG in front of 2 pike units (although he was in brush) in order to charge another of my pike units in flank, which was chewing into his pike unit. If I succeeded in breaking his expanded men at arms then I would pursue right into the flank of the unit which wanted to charge, clearing them both away. Did it come off? Well yes, unfortunately, and they even hung in the next go as well (stupid superior pikes!).

Best sportsmanship - Kerry telling me that there is an interpretation on interception which means that a BG can intercept even where a unit of LF is in front of it, provided there is visability. Kerry culd see that I was trying to charge his LF with my LF, in an effort to draw his pike out from there defensice line, and told me this before I did my charge. Good work. (and I still don't think the interpretation is correct - did create some lively debate between about 5 tables worth of players for a while)

Really good comp - although taking 16 hours to get home was not so much fun.

Thanks Murray - sounds like fun. There's alway "one" unit/BG that seems destined to be useless in every game.

That Woolford eh? He always likes a bit of "rough"! ;-)

Nice to see some variety of format - now what you need is a comp with enough people for doubles (say at 1000AP or even 1200AP).
