Greek fast fall

Post by Morris »

Do you think the Greece is more difficult to take than the real history ? In 1941 , Germans only take 3 weeks to conquer it ,but in GS , we have to cost at least two ,usually 3-4 turns .

How about to adjust the troop in Arthen to 3-5 steps . sothat if Axis launch an amphibious attack , they may take it by one turn .
Or we do it like the Belgium & Holland , Demark & Norway package . We make a Yugo & Greece package . So that Axis have the opportunity to take Yugo & Greece within 2 turns .

That is true, but if we change it then we need to do something about the Axis going after Yugoslavia in September 1940 instead of April 1941. Right now the Axis player can just be finished with taking out Yugoslavia and Greece in February / March 1941 if he starts in September 1940.

We have linked Romania and Hungary to the DoW upon Yugoslavia if the 2nd Vienna award has been signed. That happens at the end of August 1940. So the Axis will go after Yugoslavia soon after to get the Romanian oil earlier.

Several of the Axis minor units appear only after Yugoslavia and Greece are invaded and that means you can't use them against Russia if you attack as late as April 1941 (historical time).

We have a similar issue with Norway and Denmark. The Axis will usually attack these countries after the fall of France. If they attack in April 1940 then they can't use air units at all to support the invasion because those units are busy attacking in France. France takes several turns to capture as well while they were overrun in 3 turns in the real war.

I think the main focus here should be that the Balkans are completed just in time for Barbarossa and with the current rules we accomplish that. An amphibious landing against Greece would have been very risky and with a weak Athens unit then it would become preferred compared to the land invasion that players use now.

I agree with Mr. S.

Furthermore, let's beware of unintended consequences: if we make Greece so easy to take, it's easier for the Allies to take too. Suddenly we may create an unrealistically easy means for the Allies to grab Athens and Salonika.
