Firstly like to say hi to all as just joined the forum and FOG.
Have an old Tactica Gallic army and have come up with a 650 pt list which looks to be correct though allied contingents made compulsory troops tricky.
4 TC with two allied - Gallic and Spanish
1xCv 4 Arm, Sup, Undr, LtSp swdman
1xLF 6 UnProt, Ave, UnDr, Jav, LtSpr
2xHF 10 Prot, Ave, UnDr, ImpFt swdman
1xHF 6 Arm, Elite, UnDr, ImpFt swdman
1xCv 4 Prot, Sup, UnDr, LtSp swdman ..Gallic Ally
1xHF 8 Prot, Ave, UnDr, ImpFt swdman
1xLH 4 UnProt, Ave, UnDr, Jav, LtSpr ..Spanish
1xLF 6 UnProt, Ave, UnDr, Jav, LtSpr
1xMF 8 Prot, Ave, UnDr, ImpFt swdman
The Excel Army builder makes it 650 exactly.
I guess first question is it legal as I read it to be the allied HF add into the main list to make the 24 compulsory?
Secondly is it reasonable starting list with 10 base HF BG, as most likely playing on 5'x3' table against pike & Romans?
Thought of making back to 8 bases and upgrading Gallic Ally.
Cheers,

The Allied command was to enable taking some MF. If MF are not needed then can disregard allies.
Chose Spanish as only ally originally, because can have another BG for only 4 points over a Gallic ally. Having 2 sub commanders made list 10 pts over so would need to change sizes of HF BG's so went with another allied general. Being newbie did not know if better to have 3 Generals with big BG's or 4 Generals and slight reduction.
Even how much or if any MF should be taken or should the Cav be maxed out, is some LH more valuable than another Cav unit? All these options I have thought about but have no idea what is ok or not.
Do know that I have to get used to being rolled over by Pike/Romans but I do not have any other army ready to use and do not mind playing as the underdog/pilum fodder.

Hi,
I typed a more pessimistic post before. Suffice to say that I think the Gauls are basically history against nearly everything. There aren't too many armies that will generally not win against it.
Having said that, in friendly games, you can hedge your bets somewhat by agreeing with the Roman opponent to not have Superior. Their armour will still give them an advantage, but a double advantage truly sucks.
Additionally, investigate MF. They are not as bad as people make out, and in a historical game (Romans) you'll have more mounted than him so will be able to concentrate your foot on his. Extra manoeuvrability and ability to ignore most terrains will give you an evening factor against the Romans.
If he goes Superior you'll be toast in nearly all circumstances, so make it a fun game and play against average Romans with or without armour.

Re: New to FOG - Gallic list
Ouch! That is a blow to the Gauls... How about the Galatian list as all the infantry can be HF, Superior? I thought also the V2 made the Gauls more viable in a "can (could?) do better vs. Romans" kind of way?
