Series Attributes for non-German equipment

Post by Cortilein »

After having a look at the e-file of Eltare's Stalingrad/Rattenkrieg scenario, I was wondering:

If you add the series attribute to non-German equipment, would the AI actually be able to upgrade its equipment (if so desired) within a unit series to save prestige (e.g. upgrade a T34/40 tank to a T34/43 when "parked" in a city)?

If not, would it do any harm to add these series attributes to non-German units so that a human playing, for example, the Allied side in scenarios otherwise designed to be played as the Axis can upgrade equipment with a reduced prestige hit?

When doing so won't affect the AI, it would be nice to mod these attributes into the e-file e.g. for games played in hotseat mode...

It can certainly be done (for any equipment) - just set the 'family name' (the Series column in equipment.pzeqp) for each piece of equipment and the available from date. I doubt the AI would use it, but I might be wrong about that. Players can in scenarios and campaigns where they have the equipment.

Works great indeed - I always felt that this is a balancing issue, in hotseat games at least. Now the Allies can save some prestige as well and get cheap upgrades instead of completely new units, if so desired. Not sure if the AI would ever do this, though... So far I have not 'seen' it upgrading any equipment in the field. My personal e-file gets more polished every day... :)
