DLC 42 #09 Buzinovka Depot
Buzinovka Depot
Buzinovka Depot. General difficulty.
After the previous scenario the option was given either to go to Stalingrad straight away or first do some shopping at the Buzinovka depots. I picked the shopping
.
Bought a new StuGIIIB. Reinforced the rest.
This is not a difficult scenario althou it is filled with opponents...special ones nonetheless. But i am not going to give away any spoilers nor give info what units you can "obtain" here.
This map is typical north to south advance,to ged rid off those who stand in your way and to take all the objectives. There shouldn't be any surprises if you are cautious.
I can say this is a fun mission, i'm sure when you play you'll understand. Anyway, i didn't lose any units which is also important.
DV in 12/17 and 6289PP.
I'm over 1000 inf kills...so it is the moment to post a screenie of the casualty list.

Buzinovka Depot. General difficulty.
starting prestige 10700
After upgrades 7342
Ending prestige 8100
DV on 12/17
No losses
This was a pretty crazy scenario! Crazy on one hand because of the INSANE amount of enemy armor but mainly crazy because of all the Western units you are going up against. I liked Nikki's comment about going shopping, which describes this level perfectly! If you like captured units, well then Siegfried, this scenario is your ticket to Valhalla. I captured three units, which I also won't reveal because of their surprising nature, two of them are a model of tank that I have never liked but should greatly please some people (I plan on promptly disbanding them though), and then an artillery unit that seems like it will be quite a bit more interesting.
This was a pretty easy scenario for the most part. The Churchills are a threat but most of the enemy armor, though numerous, wasn't much of a threat to my armored units. I think this one was a fun bit of fan service though and I am once again impressed by your continued creativity!

Buzinovka Depot:
I am unsure of the status of this mission. Is this meant to make Stalingrad easier, or is this another bonus mission that should be fairly challenging?
I’m actually running a bit short on prestige again, finally!
It’s interesting to be fighting against Western Allies equipment, and they put up a reasonably good fight too. This scenario isn’t hard, but is certainly fun. I might add a few Russian T-34s though, just for variety.
The captured SU-122 is very nice, it’s the only well-armored 3 range artillery that the Germans can get. I foresee it having a long shelf-life.
The captured Shermans are actually pretty good, but sadly are outclass by both the PzIIIN for close combat and of course by anything else in antitank combat. Even though it has a nice paint-job, it sadly will likely be disbanded for prestige by most players, as I have done.
Good scenario overall, recommend adding some more Russian units for variety.
DV 15/17.

I agree with the comment on the unusefulness of Shermans. Moreover, why is it so slow (4) ? I did not know that it was a slow tank...deducter wrote:Buzinovka Depot:

Thanks for bringing this up. I thought that was odd too. If anything I always thought the Shermans were a bit faster than the Panzer IVs. Maybe this was a typo?produit wrote:I agree with the comment on the unusefulness of Shermans. Moreover, why is it so slow (4) ? Buzinovka Depot report
Start PP: 3599
-> to 5589 after disbanding obsolete units like Matilda II. of Awesome and some T-34/41.
End PP: 1610 at least I think so, can barely read my own handwritten notes!
Losses: - but high and expensive strength point losses, especially in the air
Acquired: Several Shermans and a SU-122!
This scenario is highly recommended. You get to experience fights against western Lend Lease equipment.
There are some surprises and the air is much more contested thanks to P40e Warhawks, Hurricanes and some of the better Russian fighters.
I even had a Stuka down to 2 and almost lost some other units.
Nevertheless a nice fight, you learn that Sherman tanks despite only [1] AD really shoot down fighters and Stukas, wtf, much better than expected.
It's a very interesting change of pace to fight western equipment and boy, those Shermans are crap vs tanks, but quite good against Infantry.
Nevertheless I will disband them in the next scenario and rather buy a IIIN or something else for the Prestige. Also, only 4 speed? Wondered about that as well.
Verdict: Nice scenario, I liked it, not too easy, not too hard, and a nice break and preparation for the assault on Stalingrad. I am already nervous.
-> Can stay as it is, it's good and I noticed no bugs.

Prestige 21,024 after reinforcement (Colonel)
DV turn 12
2x Sherman 1xSU122 captured
1 Pioneer killed.
I'd hoped there would be a capturable unit given the name of the map, but was more than happy to get 3! The self propelled artillery will be very useful.
Lots of western allied armour, including some suprisingly tough Churchill tanks. Those aside the experienced PZIV and captured KVs were more than a match for them.
The airforce was a surprise, the better allied planes did some real damage to my airpower while they lasted, which is just a taste of how bad it will be in 44-45 on the western front.

I decided to take this branch even though I was wondering if heading directly to Stalingrad might have had some benefit in a less prepared Soviet defender. At the end, I was glad I did not skip this scenario. Acquiring the SU122 is a nearly priceless moving forward. Not so enthused about the Shermans but they might turn out useful before the end. Coming up against all the western armour was something of a surprise but most was dealt with easily. The Valentines had a little pop while the Churchill actually caused me a little concern as its heavy armour kept it alive longer than I would have liked. Nice little scenario with the aforementioned great reward.
Fun scenario, I enjoyed it a lot.
One thing I noticed especially here, although it might have happened before: the AI drove its AA units right up to my max-strength IVGs to shoot at my aircraft. Being aggressive is one thing, but that is downright suicidal... Doesn't the AI think about self-preservation at all (now, having watched Enemy at the Gates, perhaps this is an accurate reflection of Red Army doctrine at the time)?

I like to think of this one as Christmas on the Eastern Front, as you roll into "Uncle Joes" used tank lot and get lots of neat prezzies. Definitely a fun one. The Valentines go down easy as do the M-3 and M-5 tanks. Shermans don't put up much of a fight, I think I might just take mine back for a refund as I am down to about 600 prestige after reinforcing for Stalingrad assault. Looks like I missed one extra toy from Unca Joe, serves me right for taking the last objective city while there was still one more city hex waiting to be occupied. Looking forward to that nice armoured artillery, with 3 hex range to boot.
My poor air force took a beating as those nasty Yanks supplied plenty of mobile AA guns that kept popping up and shooting me, not to mention losing 1 or 2 steps dive bombing Shermans
The toughest tanks here were the KV 85's and the Churchills, although the KV 85's were a lot nastier on attack.
Great scenario glad I took it just for all the extras I picked up.
Keep up the good work.

Buzinovka Depot. MV in 15 turns.
Start prestige: 1. End prestige: 253.
New units purchased: Two recons, pioniere, BF110 (all at deployment).
Units lost: Core – Recon, T-34, BF110.
Medals: 3. Heroes: 5.
After hearing our commander talk of “new and never-before-seen units” down at Buzinovka Station, how I could I resist taking my forces on a little side-trip to see what was there? Well, I’m sure glad I was curious, because Buzinovka is a veritable treasure trove of goodies! First, let me say again I really like the use of the “$” symbols to designate which hexes were the depots; this just makes the mission so much clearer and easier to plan for. Seeing all the various Lend Lease units in action was great; a nice preview of what lies ahead in the ’43 and later DLCs (when the units won’t be crewed by green Russian troops but experienced British and American units).
The scenario’s big challenge is the pair of KV-5s, and these definitely gave my force a run for its money. Thankfully, neither unit was able to totally destroy any of my forces, but they did their share of damage before I managed to bomb and surround both into oblivion. I took Buzinovka central on turn 5, and headed onto Nairman (where I was hit with a nasty Lend-Leased counterattack on turn 7), which fell after I repulsed the Russian offensive. I took my last depot “$” hex on turn 8, and wrapped up the scenario by taking the last objective (Severnyy) on turn 15.
Of course the best part of this scenario are the captured units (two Shermans and an SU-122), which made Buzinovka feel like “A Panzer Corps Christmas.” This mission gave me one of the most interesting sights I’ve seen yet in PzC: a German-captured Sherman fighting a Russian-crewed Churchill! Where else are you going to see a battle like that? I think this was a great follow-up to Ilovlya, and a nice way to prepare for the coming struggle at Stalingrad. Another fun mission!

Reinforcement core/aux: Elite/Normal
Result; after n-turn: DV; 14/17

BAR:
Not really knowing where exactly the Iwan has it's panzers, I expect some between Rogachik and the Stalingrad outskirts. I set up some defense to the east, planning to move south in a broad formation.
AAR:
Not what I expected: no surprises from the Stalingrad outskirts, but my Stukas encountered lend-lease Panzers with air defense [1]! And I temporarly lost Kolpachki! And I liked those lend-lease units and my captured units!
What I like about this scenario is the uncertainty I got when starting this map. It was quite enjoyable to play. Great piece of work!

Fginfo feedback
I must reiterate the general comments here: quite a fun scenario to play (and none too easy as well). Lots of pockets of resistance and some nasty surprises. The attraction of the "$" spaces really pushed me to drive towards those objectives which caused me having problems because of stretching too much!
Nice scenario with just enough of a challenge to make it interesting.
