Can this base fight?

The pike element is in contact with the opponant.
The base with the pointer over it is in front edge to side edge contact.

Can it add dice to the melee (Ignore the fact that it's opponants are auto broken)? If not why not?

I take it that the turned enemy base that it is fighting is actually in contact with the pike? Yes, everyone fights.

These arent overlaps so: "A base that is in contact with the front edge of enemy bases on more than one of its edges cannot be overlapped on the corner between two contacted edges." doesn't apply

And in the combat section 'how many dice to roll' it says "A base contacted in front and flank and/or rear will now have more than one front rank enemy base fighting against it."

And, take a look at the picture on page 86. It gives a good visual of when bases can fight and when they are not eligible. The lower left is basically identical to your situation.
