Biblical armies?

Post by mllange »

Is there a digital release that includes armies from Old Testament Biblical warfare?

I bought FOG and have been waiting for the Biblical Armies. So I hope they produce Swifter than Eagles, although recent posts have me worried.

I'm pretty sure Swifter Than Eagles will be published but it's about three releases down the line. Might not see it for another year or so. I'm looking forward to it too.

Let me say that FoG without Swifter than Eagles should be a real disappointment.

The true age of chariot warfare begs to be had in FOG. Assyrians, Hittites, Babylonians, all the glorious ancient peoples.

I would prefer to have the Empires of the Dragon myself as there are already chariot armies in the game. But if they publish the module I will get it. Bring on Kadesh!

The Ancient Egyptians, Libyans and Nubians are already their as they shipped with Immortal Fire, there are also quite a few suitable figures en the “Arab Early”, Punic” and “Classical Greek folders. “Immortal Fire” contains a of mixed spear / bow Assyrian infantry battlegroup in its own folder and there are a couple of biblical figures on the “Immortal Fire” “other” folder. Hope this helps.

I believe that when most folks hear the term "Ancients" that they think of Rome, Greece, Egypt and Assyria. Carthage as well. The Sea Peoples? Not as much. Hittites, yes.

As far as "Biblical" goes the time of the Bible goes back to the Creation itself and goes forward to 90 AD and beyond so using the term "Biblical" as defining JUST King David's reign and other periods of history in and around the early Kingdom of Israel restricts that term to just a short period of time.

The Maccabees, the Zeolots of AD 70 are also a part of the "Biblical" period.

I believe that the game as we have it now represents the "Biblical" period rather well. If you wanted to have chariot armies you can. The images are there and the books can be used as a reference to build a good Egyptian army of the earlier dynasties as well as Hittite armies too.

But we do not have the Asian armies such as the Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etc. And from what was said earlier they will not be made.

Thus how can worldwide warfare, which surely is part of the "Ancient" period be covered without including the Han Chinese for instance, which was a major power and controlled more people and land than the Hittites? Or the Sea Peoples for that matter.

Its a shame that the game will be mainly based on the "Mediterranean" experience. That is those kingdoms that directly or indirectly affected the trade in that part of the world.

I hope that somewhere down the line Slitherine changes its mind and decides to do SOME of the armies in the Empires of the Dragon. I know that for me the "Biblical" book has personal interest (I am a born again Christian) but the armies of the Far East impacted the world as well. And the icons would be VERY colorful too.

I do not think that there would be as much interest in the armies of the Americas but perhaps later on that book also could be done - for me it would not be one I play much. Aztec and Inca Empires not being one of my favorites.

But the icons are there. Until they produce "Swifter Than Eagles" we can still put together armies of that period in scenarios using the icon set provided.

Wouldn't that make "Swifter than Eagles" a better option as it would be quicker to produce with some of the resources (especially the troop graphics) already available?

I just hope at some point they produce all the expansions.

But of course! ;)

Easier for Slitherine for sure.

Hard on us that would like to fight the battles of ancient China.

I sincerely hope you will be fighting battles with Chinese with this great game in the future. Let's hope they do this or find a way to get it done by someone else.

Well like the book on the Americas making up the new artwork is the expense there. The thing about the current modules is that not as much has to be done in order to produce a new module. And asking folks to fork over 56 bucks or more for a module may not be in their best interests.

Thus the Blood and Gold and Empires of the Dragon may never see the light of day. But I am holding out hope that they end up doing them anyway.
