Linking DLC's with the Main Campaign

Post by AgentX »

I know that the DLC's will link together for a Grand Campaign, but I'm wondering if it is planned to allow linking the DLC's with the main campaign. The reason I ask is that there is going to be some time between when '39 and '40 DLC's are released and when all the others get released. It could be a long wait and it might be nice to be able to continue with the main campaign until the other DLC's become available. Some people also might not purchase all of them and would still probably like to continue with their core army they started. For instance, if someone only owned the '39 DLC, it has a natural drop-off point into the main campaign. After completing '39, you could continue on with the Low Countries.

The '40 campaign, though, ends in a odd spot (Maginot Line) and is missing the most important event in '40: the fall of Paris. If it ended in Paris, then it could also easily link up with the main campaign: a Decisive Victory would put you in the Sealion '40 map of the main campaign while a Marginal Victory would send you to Greece. It could be a large urban map, much like Warsaw. Actually, you could also add a Battle of Britain map and have a truly unique scenario. The all air map could have 2 starting airfields so you could deploy up to 14 core air units and another 2 airfields for a dozen or so Aux airplanes. Across the Channel, would be a string of radar stations and British airplanes defending from nearby airfields. The objectives could be destroy all radar stations and gain air supremacy by eliminating all British planes. A decisive victory would be completing both objectives and a marginal victory would be only completing one. Then, just as above, a DV would send you to Sealion '40 while a MV would send you to Greece. It could be an interesting scenario.

Anyway, linking with the main campaign is just an idea on how you can make these DLC's more versatile and open up other options to the players. Having an option to link to the main campaign would be a nice addition if you didn't own all the DLC's for what ever reason and are unable to link them together (ie. they haven't all been released, person isn't buying all of them, etc.).

No this is not planned as the balancing is entirely different and not all the branches in the normal campaign are covered. E.g. we can't create a whole campaign for Sealion as a player might skip it completely and they woudl not be impressed if a significant chunk or all of a DLC they had bought was un playable!
