plug & crash!

I bought FOG and "swords and scimitars", installed on my laptop (winXP) and updated to v.1.6.1
Then I tried to play.
Whatever game in single player I choose (use the digital army generator, use an historical scenario, ...) It constantly crashes when I click "ok let's begin a new game"...
What's appening? How can I play?

Sorry you are having problems. What error message do you get? Can you let us know your system specs?

Windows XP Professional 2002 service pack 3
tabletop: HP Compaq 6710b
CPU Intel Core2 Duo T7250 @2.00Ghz, 2Gb RAM

as I run the sw, the first strange thing is that - as I click on "OK" in the first splash screen - the following screen (the one with the osprey's, slitherine's and hex war symbols) stays for a lot of time (music plays normally). then appears the "welcome" message, but when I choose a battle and click ok after a while Windows advice that there was an error in FOG and the application is gonna be closed.

more details are:
AppName: fieldofglory.exe AppVer: 1.6.1.0 ModName: ig4dev32.dll ModVer: 6.14.10.4831 Offset: 0001bc4a

then as I start again the sw, it advices me that "it seems that the game crashed during last run. It's available an emergency save. would you restore the last save?" if I click on "yes" it crusches again, if I click on "No" I go to the further screen, choose the battle and then...

Can you help by answering the following:

1) When playing FOG do you have any over applications open?
If so which ones?
2) Have you done the HP updates from their web site for your PC, particularly the video drivers?
3) What language is your keyboard and windows version?
4) Did you accept the default installation folders for FOG or did you change it to an alternate folder?
If you did change it what have you installed FOG to?

1) none.
2) the HP upgrade tool says that all the systems (and the drivers) are updated.
3) qwerty ITA - windows xp sp3. or did you want other kind of data?
4) C:\Programmi\Slitherine\Field of Glory. I don't remember I changed the folder... I'm thinking of uninstall and reinstall the sw. Any suggestion?
could I have problems caused by AC3Filter (ver. 1.63b)?

I uninstalled everything and then I re-installed from CD (ver. 1.1.2) and I could play.
After this I installed the update to ver. 1.6.0 and the sw crashed again...

then I reinstalled ver.1.1.2 and installed the ver. 1.5.0 patch, but it gives me this error: "could not load figure: steppes/aas07-asiatic-mounted-chieftain (required for...)"

I would like to install a patch that allows me to install also "swords and scimitars"...

You should always have the latest version of the game. It may be your patch 1.6.0 is corrupt. Can I suggest you just grab the file again from
http://www.matrixgames.com/products/378/downloads/

Install this and then just use the register button the menu to unlock your expansions. It is much quicker than installing.

I uninstalled and reinstalled from cd, then I installed the 1.33 full patch but - wichever the patch I install -the result is always the same: it crushes.
I start to think NOT so good things about theese softwares...

Sorry you are having problems. This is not a normal issue obviously as other people do not have it so its a conflict with something on your PC or somethign on your PC is corrupted somehow. Do you get an error message of any sort that might help us track it down.

no explicit error message.
I have no problem with any other software on my pc.
try to ask me something in particular...
could be corrupted the files on the cd?

I re-installed version 1.2 with the 1.6.0 patch and it crashed again.
then I installed the 1.7.0 patch and it seemed to have fixed the bugs of the previous versions: I could play a couple of games.
then I installed Swords and Scimitars and is crashed again!!!!

what can I do?

Hi Paperinik, after installing the 1.7.0 patch you probably shouldnt install the S&S expansion as all files should now be included if i understand correctly (alternatively download and install the full 1.7.0 installer and run that). The idea now is that you just need to enter your registration code for each module from the popup loader that starts when you run the fog link. Theres a register option where you can register each module!

After installing 1.7.0 does the game run? Is it only after iunstalling S&S you have issues? Without any error messages it is very hard for us to know how to help. Basically it could be anything so we'd have to ask you to try random things to fix it which obviously is unlikely to help. It oculd be a virus checker, a corrupt file, a corrupt HD, it could be anything.

I found an "error log.txt" file in the Slitherine folder.
the content of the file is just: "KERNEL MEMORY CHECKING IS **OFF**"
does it help?

when the program crashed I saw the error report log to be send to Microsoft but it's very long...

Not really - that is the error log for the launcher.

All FoG related files are in the My Docs\My Games\FoG folder.
