Commander influenced re-rolls

Post by jonphilp »

If a commander is fighting in the front rank of a Keil and he Keil is then charged in its "flank"(although it is not treated as a flank attack), will the contacted bases fight at the enhanced quality re-roll . I assume this is the case but I need to be certain before the Swiss Keil's take on the Spanish colunela's in our next game.

re rolls always apply, doesn't matter if you are hit, in the flank or the rear, as long as the General is fighting against enemy bases he gives the re roll benefit.

As long as the general is declared as fighting in the front rank, it really doesn't matter where his marker is, or which part of the BG is fighting.

that was the intent I was trying to get across, guess I just should have used those exact words

Thats the problem with knowing the answer but not knowing how to make it clear in here, thanks RBS for that little clarification

Interestingly in FoG:A the general influences re-rolls for archers shooting in the second rank in the impact phase. I'm not sure if that's the mechanism in FoG:R so wont comment, but it shows the concept behind the rule I believe... if archers shooting can be improved by the presence of their commander 'leading from the front' then the same would come into practice for a Keil :)
