15mm Biblical Minis (that don't suck)?

Post by dougsfs »

Hi all, I am trying to decide on what my first FoG army should be, and I'm very interested in Biblical battles so I'm looking at the STE book right now. I understand that it's not the most powerful book in the game, but I don't care about that. What I'm having trouble with is figuring out if I should go with one of the army deals that Magister Militum has or if I should go with another manufacturer. It would be helpful if I could see what the Magister Militum minis look like painted up as an entire army. I do know that I love the Xyston minis, but they have a pretty narrow range of minis. How does Magister Militum compare? I want something fun to paint, that will look great on the table. Any suggestions? Thanks

I'm fairly certain MM15's are old 'Chariot', which in their day were considered top notch, but a little thin ankled, so resulted in some breakages. If you're willing to drill a spike into the guys groin then you're likely to have covered that problem.

I have a 10mm MM Palmyran army, and they look awesome. I was going to do a 10mm MM biblical, but have too many projects at the moment... Maybe in a year ot so. I like 10mm. They look nice, and you can play around with diorama's a bit more. 2 chariots per base look nice and you have plenty of room for chariot runners.

There are links to most of the manufacturers of Biblical minis on the FoG Wiki on my site www.madaxeman.com

The list of biblical armies is pretty thinly populated, but the range of minis is sufficiently small that if you look at the pages that do exist you will see most of the manufacturers listed somewhere

The Chariot range is a very good one. Notably, their chariots and horses actually fit on a 40x40 base with the horses an appropriate, i.e. small, size for the period.

I'd vote for the black hat range. Their biblicals are really nice. Biggish with well defined detail. Unfortunately nt many pics on the site and the range is quite narrow. For an OKE or NKE you can't go wrong IMHO.

Also Musuem miniatures do an Assyrian and NKE.. Nice too.

Chariot are small , detailed ... But I think just a bit underwelming.

Just my 2p

Lancashire games do a reasonable range too. Some might say cheap as chips... But think their libyans and Nubians have real character

Agreed on all counts

There are a few pics here too of some of these ranges.

Thanks for all of the help guys! I'm thinking that I'll probably mix and match some of these different manufacturers in order to have some variety. I'll probably end up doing a New Kingdom Egyptian army and a Hittite army.
