Terrain modelling question

Post by Hengist »

Having looked at the beautifully painted figures on the previous post, I noticed the terrain on the bases...

Which brings me to the question of basing. I have based in a million ways, from early grassy plain, through to very rough (as seen in the cavalty picture)

But what is realistic for our period.. presumably extremely rough terrain was not normal, as it would be too hard to manouvre large bodies of men and impossible to charge cavalry across.

Similarly, I imagine, their were few golf courses for them to charge across at the time...

So what was the typical terrain like, did commanders favour flat fields for battles (crops?)

I am sure you can find a million variations, after all unbroken kitty litter pretty much does it for most of the peninsular war..lol

but for your average, middle European battlefield, what was typical.
