Hot @ Cold Effect (Infantry Tactics)

Post by Merr »

Since the release of Market Garden, which emphasizes infantry survival, I wanted to quickly explain the "Hot" and "Cold" effect that isn't really seen as much in the other campaigns.

What is the HOT and COLD effect? (thank you for asking) ...

If your squad is currently "hidden" in a covered tile (e.g. building, woods, fortification, roughground, etc), and fires on the enemy and becomes SPOTTED, not only is your squad "spotted" but the tile the unit occupies is now HOT ...

The HOT tile means that any COLD unit (not previously spotted) that moves into the HOT tile now becomes "spotted".

Furthermore, that unit that originally became "spotted" is now HOT, and remains HOT until the next players turn, even if it moved to an adjacent covered tile that was COLD.

Now, before you start crying  ... Think of the HOT tile as an area that is now being heavily observed by the enemy, meaning ... if a cow strays into that tile it's toast ... or shall I say Filet Mignon!

Overall ... To survive as a foot soldier in BA, you need to remain COLD ...
How you remain COLD is up to you ...

That's all I'm going to say ... Godspeed Gentlemen

Drat! I've always wanted to be hot ... and now you're telling me it's better to be cold. Life can be so confusing sometimes.

Of course it's worth noting that some unit types - those with good ambush values such as Scout and .50 MG & MG42s - have a better chance of remained unspotted (cold) when firing.

Cheers

And, to add to that helpfull tip (thanks PirateJock) ...

If your first shot shows AMBUSH (cold), your odds drop for the 2nd shot ... meaning, you are more likely to be spotted on the 2nd shot (hot potato!).

Oh ... for the Scouts ... The new "SCOUT" (eye-ball) comes in very handy when the Scout Unit uses it ...
You'll see the Germans even further, especially those in the buildings ... If you look closely, you can see them unaware, sipping wine and playing cards.
