Market Garden- Kudos and Suggestions

Post by Benpark »

I'm up to the "Little Omaha" (do I have that right?) scenario in the MG expansion, and it's the best display of the potential of the game yet. The maps seem larger and more realistic, and the campaign itself seems well suited for the game. The unit carry-over is also a great addition. All in all, I'm really pleased with the game.

A few suggestions to further improve the singleplayer game-

-Randomize the setup of the enemy forces (esp. when they defend). Replaying a given scenario would be far more interesting if you didn't know the exact location of that annoying 88mm. This is a must have for me. Otherwise the game turns into a "lose/reload" situation too often, with the game getting progressively easier each reload.

-Allow progression with a loss, with unit carry-over. I know this may be tough as far as the way scenarios have been designed, but the simple fact of the matter is that sometimes you don't take all of the objectives in real life.

-Unit position carry-over between battles, with persistent damage. This would allow long term battles to play out- it would have been great for Arnhem.

-Smoke. It should be available when used by larger artillery calibers in small numbers, and in specialized squads.

-A little more variety in infantry units. "ad hoc" units were used by German forces in the MG campaign, and I think these are probably filled in by "Volksgrenadier" units. It would be a bit of fun chrome to have a few interesting types.

-Slightly tilt the game towards a realistic force composition. If you are portraying a realistic campaign, try to get the gist of the forces- don't rely on throwing Tiger tanks in to make it tougher when they weren't there.

Overall, its' becoming a really fun game. With a few more tweaks, it will be a replayable classic. As many have stated, the eastern Front will be the main event.
