1.6.0 known issue

Post by IainMcNeil »

Hi guys

we found an issue moments after release - oh the joy....

Basically it means if you ran the autoupdater in the last month or so (after july 29th) some of the files would fail to install as they would be marked as older than the versions you have grabbed from the auto updater. They would get an error that said a "version mismatch".

We have rebuilt the installer and uploaded and replaced the 1.6.0 patch but there may be people who grabbed it before we fixed it.

If so all they need to do is grab the new installer and it will fix the problem. If you see anyone with this problem just let them know to download the patch again from here and it will work. The mirror sites have the broken patch so only the direct link to our patch will work:

Thanks for your help!

Iain, something isn't clear to me---are you saying that we only need to reinstall the 1.60 patch, or the whole game? I am getting these mismatch errors since downloading 1.60 and although it doesn't affect game play, it would be nice to not see the messages. So, I downloaded the new patch, but it won't install (says I'm already up to date).

If in fact I need a new game installer, how do I go about getting that?

Iain, this issue shows up when playing PBEM. My opponents see the same message too. What happens (and this is only since the patch) is that I load the turn from my opponent. It loads, but a message pops up saying that there are differences in the script files that I use compared to what my opponent uses. It suggests I contact the opponent and ask them why their data files are different (which they don't know the answer to) and also to report it to Slitherine.

It does not seem to prevent playing the game, but it's annoying.

There is another problem that I and my opponents see from time to time, where you try several times to upload your turn, it fails, and then suggests to cancel the turn (it also says that the server will show it as "retried" whatever that means). But what actually happens is that in MOST cases, the turn uploads anyway, and no problem. But occasionally it does NOT upload.

This second problem is actually an older problem that existed before the patch, but it still persists since patching.

Hi Iain,

I am also seeing the same message since I am playing Happycat. I am on the Mac version and he on a PC version.

strange I do not see the message with Ronnie since he is on the PC also. ??

Also in my excitement I purchased the new mac version before I read Pip's message that I already have a serial.

I do not know what can be done.

Hmm - we didn't see this version mismatch issue in testing, but I will look into it.

Does it occur on every map/mission in MP?

Cheers

It happens in other scenarios too in MP. I am playing Clash of Armor with Boepp, and it happens there too.

And the other problem I described, where we get upload failure messages, happens with everyone I play. And I think that at least one person advised me that it happened in an MP game that did not involve ME, so I don't think it's my installation that is the problem.

I've tried out the mismatch thing, and I can't repeat. Are you doing Mac to PC or PC only? Are these continued games from a prior version, or brand new with 1.6.

We're not seeing any other posts on this as far as I can see, so I'm not sure what the cause could be. Did either of you update using the "broken" patch installer?

Cheers

Hi Pip---I have no idea if I used the broken patch installer or not. But to be safe, I went to the link that Iain provided at the beginning of this thread, downloaded the new patch, but when I try to install it, it tells me I am already up to date.

So, should I uninstall everything and start over? I have the original game, France add-on, and am about to get MG. So if it's a case of reinstalling just to be sure, then I may as well do it beforehand.

I do seem to be the common link in the mismatch issue, and it only started when I updated with the 1.6 patch. And, it happens pc to pc and pc to mac (i am on a pc)

It might be a good idea to do a reinstall. You can just install the original game installer, then use the updated 1.6 patch installer and you should be good to go. The BF and MG installers will just then update the few files they need to.

Hopefully that will solve this very odd issue.

Cheers

Pip, I reinstalled the base game, patch 1.60, France and MG and everything is GOOD now. I played five different multiplayer turns with three different opponents and no issues. Thanks for your help. :D
