Mixed Guns

Did the authors ever consider allowing "miixed" batteries of different types of guns? ie, 1 Medium, 1 Heavy?

Would it create gamey-type issues?

Was it historical - or not maybe?

If it was allowed, would you choose it as a matter of course, or just if you had a few spare points left over?

Any thoughts?

We assume that all mixed batteries are classified as the majority type.

I believe mixed batteries were quite common especially in the early ECW period when artillery was scarce or taking the Ming who appear to have mixed all types of artillery together (from heavy to what FOGR terms regimental gun size) . I know as gamers we like "tidy" rule sets and the reply is consistant with the excellent methodology of FOG . However a mixed battery would give the right feel in that is the battery has a better impact the closer the target but has a chance to cause damage at long range. Perhaps it would have been better to allow certain armies to have a battery of 1 base to allow this when historically they were not able to field a lot of artillery. They could then have one base of say light artilley adjacent to one of Medium or just one medium or light artilley base on the field of battle. Mind you with the way my dice are going at the moment my artillery should stay at home.

I thought most of these "fun-squeezing-out" arguments had been left behind in FoG:AM

Well each to their own, but I do wonder just how much fun can be had from having mixed artillery BGs.

It would allow you to juggle the points easier and have a half Hvy haalf Med btty.

I suspect the authors were right on this as its sort of an irrelevant complication.

God forbid we ever have a fun & easy set of rules to use. Why complicate things ? You can see the arguements in a 3-4 gun battery on proportional loss of heavy to medium guns already fermenting in minds.
