BG Removed and General Refuses To Die

A BG is caught in pursuit and has an attached General that refuses to die, what happens to the General when the BG he is with is removed and there are no friendly BG's anywhere nearby?

he dies if he can't move to a friendly BG within a move, and there are closer enemy BGS to him. I believe that is how it works. If there are no enemy BG's in range and no friendlies, I think he is left on his own to move as he wishes, but if an enemy BG moves through him while on his own he is killed and removed.
