Installs per serial number?

Post by bloodphoenix »

Over under the general download tech support section, I found a post asking about whether you could install the game on both a desktop and a lap-tap. The Slitherine rep verified that you could. This partially addressed my
concern: multiple installs. But my situation is a bit more complex. I'll try to make this as simple and easy to follow as possible!

I have a wargamer friend who is currently home, but usually is overseas for several months at a time. He and I and his son played Zama using Field of Glory table-top at a recent miniatures convention. We were impressed, and he spent about a hundred dollars that day on books for the game, then later bought each of us a copy of the base digital version. This will allow the three of us to play online when he returns to his current job-site (in Iraq) and his son goes to his first posting with the Army. We've really enjoyed the game...you did a great job on it!
As soon as I can afford it, I plan on buying several of the expansions, but my life has been "challenging" lately.

My computer has been hors-de-combat for awhile, so when my gamer buddy did the digital download, he loaded it on my son's computer. That was a mixed blessing...it was better than not being able to play at all, but its a less
than ideal situation, since I can only use it when my son isn't...and more importantly...he's 21 and plans to move out in the next couple months.

Frustrated by the limitations on when I could play, my wargamer-buddy gave me a "hand-me-down" lap-top his daughter had replaced. Its old, slow, and will need some work before I can run FoG on it (it doesn't even have wireless capability), but it does give me some options, especially for gaming away from home.

Which introduces the other factor: I'm presently spending much of my time staying at the home of another friend I've known for 25 years, who's needed help with a really rough series of health problems (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure, and most recently an amputation). (The only way I was available to take care of him was that I'd been laid off, thus my shortage of funds...) He used to repair and custom build computers for a living, and he's currently putting together a desktop PC for me out of gratitude for the home health care I've provided. In the meantime, he's also made one of his computers available to me while I'm staying at his place.

Got all that? So...can you guess my concern? The earlier reply about the purchase serial number made it clear the game could be installed on a desktop and a laptop. But what if a person uses more than two machines? If I uninstall the game from my son's computer, will that still count as one of my installations? Once my new PC is finished, I'll of course install it on there, for use at home. But ideally, I would also like to have it on the desktop computer at the home of my convalescing friend, at least until I can get the laptop whipped into shape. I'm writing this message at his house right now.

I don't want to access the game online and download it if its going to mean I then can't install the game on my home computer or my laptop. And for that matter, I don't want the copy on my son's soon-to-be-gone computer to prevent me from having a copy elsewhere! I love this game, but I'm very short of cash right now, and just can't invest the money for extra copies. What are my options?

My thanks for your patience and consideration,
Joseph "Blood-Phoenix"

Each serial is a single user license so if it is for personal use you can install on as many PC's as you like. Each serial is linked to one multiplayer account so if you have the serials on your desktop and laptop you'll only be able to log in to that one account and you can start games on one PC and continue on another without the need to copy anythign - the server handles it all for you.
