First game with Inca

Post by marty »

So expecting a sound beating I played my brothers 30yw French the other night with my Inca.

Much to my surprise and outrage I discovered that my LF and warriors were ineffective at stopping european cav

In general though I was pleased with how the Inca performed. Although I was undeniably lucky (not one unit of Inca was disrupted at impact by the French impact foot, and we had losts of tries at it) I got the better of the French foot and Dragoons and held on for a bloody draw.

I found the combination of large units, a GCand the easy provision of rear support made the army really resilient. In fact shooting at it was virtually a waste of time as base losses didn't really matter either.

Archers are devastating with 2 dice an element front! They were the only foot who were able to repulse some of the French cav and frankly if I could have more than 16 bases I would. Armies entirely made up of these guys will be very effective (Amazon anyone!?)

So probably not a great comp army but not as terrible as I had feared either.

I do recall back when the rules were first released that someone said that the American armies fare better in FOG R than they did in the FOG ancient/medieval rules. Sounds like your battle groups are somewhat similar to my tercio's, so many bases you can't force a cohesion test from shooting and they don't get a lot of minuses from melee for that same reason.
Grats on showing those Frenchies a few things

Dont know if I would go that far.

I suspect the ones that were undrilled and/or unprotected under FOG A are probably better but the ones that were drilled are probably worse (its a bit like they suddenly forgot how to do anything but rush straight ahead!). The real big winners are the ones with bow (who often also fit in to the previously undrilled and unprotected category!).

I also found during this game that the overlaps hitting on a 3 gives the warriors a much better chance of hanging on in an otherwise losing fight.
