General in difficult terrain

Post by gaesati »

Does a general with a unit of LF in a forest move at their speed or does the LF move at his speed?

At their speed.

It is only commanders who are not with a BG that move at commander speed (it's in 'movement of commanders' in the first movement section)

Does the general get a +1 on the move distance as he is in a single element wide column?

He is not a BG in a single element wide column, so no

It would make sense if commanders alone in difficult terrain moved at LF speed, as they are able to do so when with LF. Something that could be included in v2?

Possibly not - they would still need to take their horse with them so they could remount once they got out of the difficult going. LH speed is reasonable.

Well, if a commander moves with an LF BG at LF speed through difficult terrain, he is able to remount and ride off at LH speed in the open on the other side. So why not when he is on his own? But if he leaves the BG and retraces his steps through the terrain, he can't go as fast as he just went. It makes no sense at all.

Remember this is a few individuals on the best horses money can buy, not hundreds or thousands of men on whatever can be spared from the family herd, or bulk purchased mounts, all trying to fit through limited gaps between the trees or whatever.

Clearly the irregularity of speed was driven by making them the same speed as LH on the chart and nothing more than that. Lets not over analyze an effort at simplicity with post post hoc justification.
