Advice for the "Night Escape" mission as the Allie

Post by khill9702 »

I was inspired by Andreas81 excellent thread of asking for advice for a specific single player scenario and I thought I'd do the same. I am on the second to last scenario of the Battle of Normandy campaign and its frustrating the heck out of me. Ive tried about 6 times and just can't seem to kill the 40 total units in the given amount of turns. Any and all suggestions are welcome including the best way to spend the 200 points for extra units at the beginning of the scenario. Thanks!

Hi

I had some trouble with this one, too. What went really well for me was to spread my forces all over the map and hunt down trucks, infantry and light tanks/hlaf tracks to get the 40 kills easily. I tried to avoid an encounter with the Panther and Panzer IV. In the end I outflanked the Panther an destroyed it.

Many trucks are hiding near the several houses all over the map you cann hunt them with you half track or M5.

I don't really remember but I bought just tanks. I believe there aren't that much points to spend.

I hope I could help you.

Just played this one so it is fresh in my mind.
The directions, hopefully will make sense. South is where the German main retreat is coming from in my mind. So, keep that perspective in mind when you read these directions.

1) The setup. I use armored vehicles because you never know what you will run into at night. Pumas can shred M-18s and M-5s so be careful.
2) Send 2 M-4s and 1 M-4 76 south to block the road and wait. They should be in line with the building as they advance. Use your scout in that area to spot enemy from the hill crest. Wait for the initial parade of trucks and half tracks to advance. Keep your scouts on "no fire".
3) The Sherman 76 can lead the way to the north(?) and west(?) Use it and the M-5 to scout out the back area and capture the flag there. You will run into a puma there so make sure you have your infantry out front. They can spot without being spotted and the Sherman and M-5 can shoot from afar.
4) slowly make your way across the board until you've covered the center and western roads. Other trucks, halftracks and pumas will either be stationed there or will be making their way toward your position.
5) Sometimes, your other scouts will have targets of opportunity. Make sure they can take the shots without being harmed themselves. They are important to giving you warning when the enemy convoys are coming and where tanks are.
6) Reinforcements will show in the form of the M-18 M-10 M-5 and M-3 Half track. use these to fill in where needed and strengthen the line as you move south.
7) Use your infantry to spot and locate the enemy tanks and other vehicles. Getting the first shot in the flank or rear is key, especially when killing the panther.
8) Keep your infantry spread out for spotting so your vehicles can see. kill enemy infantry and watch out for the Panzer Shreks.

That should be enough. Let me know how it goes.
