Viking Banners

Post by Fluffy »

Good evening.

With reference to the earlier topic "Tin Soldier vikings", I ended up choosing 2 Dragons mini's.

I'm getting Eric Bloodaxe and 2 "huge raven headed banners", what I would like to know is if anyone knows a good (internet) source for what Bloodaxe looked like and any easy to paint viking symbols for the banners (was thinking Odin's raven and the world serpent).

Thank you.

Does anyone know if Odin's triple horn would be acceptable on a banner?

More to the point, can anybody say it is not.

IMO if it looks good use it.

My Christian Varangians have a banner with St Eligius on because he looks a lot like Thor. Strange that.

I keep my eye on this sort of stuff, and I'm 99% sure there was some fantastic downloadable banners listed on this site earlier. Do a search for them - they were great!

These ones were on my bookmarks:

Great!!!

I feel you could use them as 'camp banners' too. I'm not confident, but pretty sure Vikings pulled their sails down and put them up as required, so could easily have used the mast as a flagpole in their camps. Having 6 or 8 ships banners lining the edge of a camp would look fantastic.

Well, my camp is completed, and already pretty busy. I might do a mock up and see what I think about it. It mostly depends on whether I run the Vikings at Can-Con next year.

Being 650 points I may.
