Well a bare victory anyway, but we Catholics are not too proud to take a minor victory over defeat.
It was an interesting game as neither of us has ever run most of these troops before so did not know what to expect. I won the initiative and chose hilly (was hoping for a forest to hide my lights in but ended up with Blatherguts steep hill on my left. My gentle hill ended up halfway on my right side board edge, and the forest ended up in Blatherguts deployment area. I ended up with his brush about 7 MU's in from my table edge just off my center line. Blathergut also had some brush on his right table edge both on his rear and about half way up his deployment.
Blathergut broke out his first surprise by commanding out the shot from 4 of his units and combining them into 2 giant 8 base shot units
One of them deployed off on the Protestent right more or less by themselves so I deployed my Kuirassier there to cut them down, MF in open unprotected and no terrain to hide in in sight.
He also deployed 2 units of Kuirassier in the brush on his left, since he got first move he was able to get out before my Dragoons arrived. The table was so crowded he was forced to deploy his poor pike and shot rear support on his left in the woods, where it took them a long time to finally get out into the open.
