V for Victory Gold Box series

Post by tnourie »

Would slitherine be interested in re-upping the V for Victory series?? Is anyone out there as addicted to it as I was?

It would use a similar engine as the original and would have to be just as simple to use. But with todays graphic potential. . .

I kept my old 486 machine with DOS just for those games. Drives my poor wife nuts. But I love those games. They were what a detailed turn based war game should be, IMO.
Thanks,

tnourie, you can use dosbox (a DOS emulator) to run your old games in your new computer.

Or option 2, set up a Virtual PC and load all your games onto a Virtual Machine file. I can have my Steel Panthers 3 and my V4Victory games all up and going on my Windows 7 using modern computer as easy as installing Virtual PC.

Not a perfect solution, some things just never cooperate, for instance Steel Panthers (Matrix Games version) is technically a 'Windows' program, and so can frustrate some DOS solutions and yet refuses to run fully correctly in anything post Windows 98SE all because of hardware based issues. My main problem, getting the mouse to scroll correctly (which makes playing the game excrutiatingly annoying).

A great series of games. Also World@War series. There hasn't been a planning-execution operational WWII game since. I guess these days gamers would complain that there are too few scenarios in each game. But the quality of the scenarios was top-notch, and the AI was designed for the scenarios so was a lot tougher than the AI in more generic games
