artillery support not alway working

artillery support not alway working

My artillery units always have ammo and they all have a range of 3. So why do they not always fire defensive fire support. Do they have to be adjacent to the unit being attacked or something like that.

Yes, (artillery) support only works for adjacent units, regardless of their range.
