Datachment of unit with regimental gun

Post by MatteoPasi »

A questione about datachment of shots from unit with regimental gun:

what appens if 2 units with 4 shot, 2 pike (S&P) and regimental gun (RG) each opt to detach 4 shots in order to have a now unit:

1. the new S&P unit has 2 RG
2. both the S&P unit and the detachment have the RG
3. the player can choose 1. or 2.
4. one of the RG is lost

I opt for the 2 but looking for opinions.

Thanks

Matteo

As I understand it the regimental gun marker is used to indicate that a BG has a number of small artillery pieces spread across its frontage, it does not represent actual guns in the same way an Artillery base does. P35 specifies that BGs with this capability indicate this by "having a single regimental gun marker". So I would say that you split them between the BGs, i.e. your option 2.

This was covered by RBS in an earlier thread,

Exemple : 2 swedish brigade with GR, you pick up 2 shots per brigade and build a 4 bases shot BG, and a combined BG (sort of super swedish brigade) with 4 shots and 6 pikes...and the RG, 1 with shot BG and one with combined BG, or 2 with combined BG (is it possible to have 2 RG markers in one BG ?).

The rules allow Shot to be detached, but not Regimental Guns, which have to stay with the parent BGs. Those are combined into a composite BG, but as each BG can only have 1 regimental gun dice (and marker) you would effectively by wasting one of the RG guns.

Few if any armies have compulsory RGs, so just have one of each pair of BGs that you intend to detach shot from without a RG and all will be well.
