abandoning transports

Post by pupski »

I didn't find a way to abandon transports, is it at all possible at the moment to leave your trucks behind. In or near thick forest it can be a good choice to dump the trucks and gather maneuvering space. I read in an earlier post that movement for motorized units was not restricted, only slower, but maybe I'm mistaken. As the image shows the infantry with trucks can only go backwards but has no single possibility to enter the thick forest in support of the other unit. I actually like/prefer the situation but think an abandon option would be a reasonable choice. Especially because some other units have more maneuvering possibilities then they should have, in my opinion. (see image 2). It feels unbalanced if you compare both situations. Mountain climbing tanks but infantry is not allowed in a forest.

Personally I don't particularly like the idea of transports interfering with default unit movement... it can lead to units needing transporting, having to discard it, and then needed it again at a later point in the same scenario...

But regardless it's #11 Post #1 on The List.

No problem, the recent forum merger really makes things hard to find sometimes, so we don't mind taking a little bit of time to guide people in the right direction. :)

First off... those hexes are thick forest. you can only enter a thick forest after you are next to it for one turn.

Second only infantry can do this function and it works very well in the game, especially strategically.

Motorized infantry can not enter thick forest.

When was the last time you were in a forest? A thick forest?

If you know about forest you would understand they are nearly impassible.

Gamelin viewed the Ardennes as impenetrable and chose to defend it with ten of his weakest, least-well equipped and least well trained divisions.
I wonder how that turned out? ;)

Personally, I abhor excessively rugged terrain (truly impassable) or ruinous weather conditions such as mud as game play mechanics. Having to fight excessively bad terrain or atrocious weather is a worse offense than fighting against a clock.
