Ideas for future add-ons and sequels to Panzer Corp. Part 1

Post by deniswriter »

First off, I would like to congratulate the development team for bringing this genre of strategy game back to life. Not everything is about 3d graphics running at 60 frames per second. As Panzer corp is proving, a game can be developed that is incredibly fun and extremely addictive once you understand the strategies, and unlike so many modern games, you can choose the way you want to progress in order to win. If you're an Air force buff, build a huge fleet of planes with minimal ground forces and attempt to beat the game that way. It may be more difficult than a conventional balanced army, but that's the beauty of this game...you build your army the way you see fit and then develop the subsequent best strategy to implement success. I think the real key is how to get newer players to try this type of game since the graphics are by no means flashy, yet the game play is outrageously fun. Marketing will have to focus on getting these new players into the game so that the popularity and demand grows. This could be done a number of ways. A free downloadable demo would probably be worth the effort since everyone likes to test drive something before they buy it. The addictive nature of the game would be a big asset towards encouraging the curious to buy the game after trying it for an hour or so, especially when you are playing campaign modes where progress is measured in countries taken over the long haul. The campaign mode is the heart and soul of these types of game. If you look at the popularity of the Modding community of Panzer general II, you will notice that there are literally hundreds of camapigns, many of them excellent, to download. If Panzer corp can develop a large enough fan base, it could have one distinct advantage over player modded games like PG II....Sequels and add-ons that the player can actually purchase. PG II mods are free, but you literally have to be a computer genius to download the campaigns, the sound files, equipment files, upgrades, etc. Curiously, out of all the talented modders that have contributed to that game, not one has found a truly easy way to get the game onto your computer. Many like myself would rather buy the finished product, than be bothered with downloading multiple files and having to figure out which folders they go into and how to get the game to run properly. This is where Panzer corp could succeed where PG II did not. Modders could still creat campaigns for Panzer corp, but I think it might be a good idea that if enough interest is generated in this game, the developers continue to develop new campaigns that are finished products available to purchase and download. This has been done very successfully with Playstation 3 games such as Black ops and all the Call of duty games to mention a few.

Well, WWII offers several theaters/campaigns, as we have seen in the PG series: Pacific, Eastern, Western etc. I'd be particularly interested in campaigns dealing with specific operations of the war (several scenarios dealing with D-Day, for example, though, as with PG, PC is more strategic in scope, but frankly I don't see anything stopping this engine from being used for lower-scale operations -after all, divisions/companies etc. is an abstraction, it's just a tank or a few soldiers on screen, so the more I think about it the more I feel it could be done).

I came across a mod (or perhaps it was in Open General) dealing with WWI operations in the Middle East, that would be fun and perhaps help veterans of PG enjoy Panzer Corps in different contexts -but that's for the future :)

I should have some final impressions from my tutorial campaign tomorrow, I've also started a 1939 campaign, both on hard, much more aggressive AI (have some comments on that, but saving those for the proper thread).

Back on topic, I think deniswriter is on the right track here, I'm sure the devs will look into expanding the game, once they have the core refined.

Thx for sharing your thoughts guys. If the first game is a success, there will be much more to follow. :)
