Campaign - Milton Keynes 9th/10th July

Post by quackstheking »

Campaign this year will feature 3 FOGR competitions as follows:-

1. English Revolution 1639-1650
2. Early Italian Wars 1494-1529
3. Polish Wars 1577-1621

Armies are limited to those that fought in these conflicts and full details can be found on the Milton Keynes Wargames Society site - http://mkws.org.uk/index.php?id=149

Although there are "teams of 3", individuals are more than welcome to enter and for the purposes of the team competition will be placed into teams. Alasdair Harley will be the list checker and answer any queries you may have.

Campaign is a great 2 day event that takes place in a very unique setting in the huge open (indoor!) space in front of John Lewis in the Milton Keynes shopping centre. This means a very light and airy playing area, with masses of high street shops and fast food outlets - you could even bring the wife/partner for the day!! There is even a Costa Coffee not 10 yards from the playing area!!!

This is a great competition and is one of the first events (if not the first!) to run with multiple themed FOGR periods rather than the usual "open list" format being swamped with TYW type armies. This gives you a great chance to get those Swiss, Spanish, Poles and Turks out out for a run and fight in period historical opponants (but if you prefer you can still stick to later ECW Royalist!).

It would be great to see as many of you as possible at this event.

Any questions, please feel free to ask. :D

Hi David,

It's only about a 10/15 minute walk from the station or only a couple of quid taxi ride. There are loads of hotels in the area too.

Hopefully see you there!

Runners and Riders were:-

Italian wars (1485-1529)

1. Richard Bodley Scott - Italian Wars French (MKWS)
2. Dave Parrish - Trastamara Spanish (Forlorn Hope)
3. Derek Bruce - Maximillian Imperial (3 Musketeers)
4. Steve Hammond - Swiss (Individuals)
5. Julian Morgan - Maximillian Imperial (Southampton) - Sunday only
6. Dave Johnson - Italian Wars Venetian (Ilford)

Polish Wars (1577-1621)

1. Jim Gibson - Later Austrian Imperial (MKWS)
2. Andy Kitcher - Later Austrian Imperial - (Forlorn Hope)
3. Alasdair Harley - Later Austrian Imperial (3 Musketeers)
4. Charles Masefield - Later Ottoman Turkish (Individuals)
5. Nigel Emson - Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth (Southampton)
6. Paul Kitcher - Early Gustavian Swedish (Ilford)

English Revolution (1639-1650)
1. Don Avis - Later Royalist (MKWS)
2. Ben Jones - Scots Royalist (Forlorn Hope)
3. Paddy Bray - Later Royalist (3 Musketeers)
4. Simon le Ray Meyer - Early Royalist (Individuals)
5. Gregg Mann - Parliamentarian (Southampton)
6. Ian Pudney - New Model Army (Ilford)

So over 18 potential armies we had 14 different armies chosen and even the 3 Austrian and 2 Later Royalist armies were VERY different compositions. A great (and tiring) weekend and a personal thanks to my 5 opponents for such good games all fought in a 1st class spirit.

As a team competition, the top 3 were:-

1st Forlorn Hope
2nd MKWS
3rd 3 Musketeers

Alasdair has promised to let me have the individual results in each period (for the Rankings Tim!) and I'll get those up later this week.

Thanks again to Alasdair for list checking and running the FOGR period over the weekend and the Milton Keynes guys for organising the event and I personally look forward to crossing swords again in the near future!
