More unlikely events with game play and results..........

Post by Jonesy1760 »

I had a side shot at a Panther and a rear shot. Both missed. One was with a Sherman and another with a Chaffee...what the hell is going on??? The Sherman was even stationary. Then the Panther which was moving fast turns and destroys my Sherman? Also in another game I had a stationary Panther shoot at an ATG at square range and and no effect? not even a suppressed..anyone else getting improbable results like this????

Infantry cannot be seen by tanks in cover - but it's possible that other units can see the infantry. If the infantry are not in cover, then they are of course visible.

Today I had a "SUPER WESPE" EVENT.....As the Germans my Wespe was shot at by a Cromwell tank at point blank range, two other British tanks at 3 square range. All missed. Then a squad of British inf. tried to close assault but the Wespe got in the first shot at point blank range. The "SUPER WESPE" blew them to pieces. later in the same scenario a Typhoon ground attack aircraft "spotted" my German 75mm ATG HIDDEN in a house and bombed it....More weird results!?!?

Was the Panther out of shots? Or potentially suppressed?

If not it could be a bug, so a save would be very useful.

Panther defensive fire...

Post by Jonesy1760 »

What do you mean by "out of shots"? The Panther was on the defensive. It should have at least a chance to defend itself no matter what...As an ex tanker we always had a round in the chamber. If this is not the case then it may not be a bug but a design flaw. No tank runs in front of another with out getting shot at. :?:

If it has fired all it's rounds (units get 2 shots in their turn, plus an extra one in the enemy turn for reaction on top of any remaining) then it will not be able to fire again that turn.

Having units fire infinitely in a single turn makes no sense of course :)

A Panther only has a 50% chance to reactive fire at a target in the front fire arc ... try it again and he may fire ;)

Its still ahistorical!!!

Something like this event should not happen at all....Opportunity fire for defensive fire should always happen. How about making it a low odds to hit???

It depends on whether the unit moving was hunting, and thus harder to spot.

Panther defensive fire problem.....

Post by Jonesy1760 »

What??? The Panther was stationary and the M-18 was moving right in front of it. Sighting is not a problem since the M-18 is large enough to see at 1 or 2 square range. It should not matter what speed the M-18 is moving..Its a large vehicle. I suggest you change this inconsitancy.

Jonesy,

With all due repect, lets put YOU in the Panther and play out how YOU think it should work ...

Now, from your post, the Panther (that's you) fired twice already in it's turn. The Panther keeps a round loaded in the chamber (like you said) for Op Fire.

Did the Panther already use this Op Fire round?

I agree with you in keeping a continuous defense when firing ... However, (not in this case), you would have to admit that several factors come into play ... such as Rate-Of-Fire and turret rotation speed. Yeah, every tank in the Panthers front arc (front turret arc) would be toast, in this case, Rate-Of-Fire is the main factor.

So ... tell us please (I'm not joking or messing with you), what would be the specific changes to make this more palletable?

Thnkx!

The Panther should have an opportunity like any other tank or spg in this game to defend itself. Give it a low odds chance of a hit....

I agree but ... the game mechanics allow you to enter a defensive "mode" by not using your tank offensively during it's turn, ie shots available. If the Panther spent it's turn hammering other tanks then it's too busy (distracted) to take on units in the other players turn.

I'm not a rw tanker, but mutual support does lend to better tactics that avoid one tank from being overrun, as in the case with that crazy M18 you mentioned.

Perhaps a change is needed ... OpFire has always been the topic of debate since it was released. Maybe a new command is needed to help the situation, something like the HoldFire ...

... call it HoldPosition : The unit will react 100% of the time, but, it will lose it's offensive capability next turn, meaning it will have no AP to move and no shots. In other words, it's reversing the logic for a players turn, 0AP/shots on players turn and infinite shots on enemies turn.

On another topic ;
Instead of tanks "retreating" they should (like you said) either reverse back a tile and hold position and defend itself.
There wouldn't be anymore "chasing down the fleeing AFV" syndrome.

Panther defensive fire problem.....

Post by Jonesy1760 »

I have played many tactical WWII tank games over the past 4 decades. They all have had "opp"
fire. I can understand getting blasted from the rear from being sneaked up upon. tanks dont see very well from the sides and rear when buttoned up. I can tell you that from personal experience.
I would just like to see this corrected. stick the tenk with a big negative percent to hit...But just letting a tank pass in front of another tank face to face without a reply is illogical!
