Needed tooltips.

Post by Kerensky »

That whole top right area of the screen, that needs tooltips.

01:25 does not intuitively mean turn 1 of 25. That only becomes obvious if you pay attention to how the numbers change and reflect the black start of turn screen. And honestly, that black screen could use some work.
For example, in Low countries. It says:
Axis Turn 2
Date
Weather
24 turns remaining.

But the top right reads:
2:25.

Now I understand why it's turn 2 of 25, and how that equates to '24' turns remaining within the mechanics of the game, but it just doesn't look right. 25 minus 2 is not 24.

If you used up TWO turns, and there are TWENTY-FOUR left, how many turns did the scenario start with? If you ask anyone outside of this game, I'm pretty sure they're not going to say 25.

But yea, back to tooltips.
Mouse over tooltips for
1. X : Y turn information. All it needs to say is 'Current turn: X Total turns: Y'.
2. The current day's weather button. No where, except the initial black screen you cannot re-examine after dismissing, does it say in plain letters what today's weather is. You have to 'know' what the picture means, and it isn't exactly always obvious. For example, the rain icon clearly still shows the sun behind the rain clouds.
3. End turn button. "What's this stop-watch button do? I dunno, I guess I'll find out by clicking it. Oh, so there's the end turn button. I guess I have to load because I didn't want to actually do that yet, but at least now I know." Maybe it's just me, but that was how I learned what that button was. How else would you know, with no prior knowledge of the game?
4. Next day's weather. Especially if this is not a guarantee and is only a possible prediction, the tooltip should mention the margin of error. Otherwise the game is flat out lying to you, showing you information that is clearly inaccurate. Could you ever imagine if unit stat numbers were not what they appeared to be? If a unit's ammunition reserve had a 20% margin of error?
5. That little icon that sits above the brief unit stat summary. It's clear to me because I'm pretty familiar with World War two equipment, but is it by no means obvious, and there needs to be somewhere in plain English(text of some kind for non-English versions of course) this unit is a TANK.(purchase screen is inadequate. What if you are playing a set piece scenario, where the scenario designer has given you antiquated or prototype units? You have no reference to check because they are not available for purchase. Not to mention if you have multiple countries and cannot buy units of your alternate countries).
For example:
Image
If I wasn't familiar with the idea of 'assault guns' I would absolutely call a unit that looks like that a TANK. But it's not a tank, it's an Anti-Tank unit class.

Potentially worse, because not only could that be mistaken for... say a Nashorn, it actually says the word 'panzer' in the unit's name. Sturmpanzer. So it looks like a tank(it's a tank!), it would actually be an assault gun like a Nashorn because there is no turret the gun is fixed(it's an anti-tank!), it has the german word for tank in the name(it's a tank!), but it's actually an artillery unit(haha fooled ya!)
Also note no where does it say 'artillery' you just have the little graphic, which could be mistaken as anti-air(barrel pointing towards the sky).
