"Alternative" Battle of Tewkesbury, 1471

Post by stockwellpete »

There is already a version of this battle included in the FOG roster and it is a very well-balanced scenario.

However, I feel that there are a number of historical issues with it that warrant a second look. First of all, the sources that I have read suggest that this was not a particularly large battle, the Lancastrians having around 6,000 men, the Yorkists a bit less. Whereas in the FOG scenario the numbers of troops involved are very much higher. It should be noted that the Battle of Barnet had taken place only three weeks before - and that the Lancastrians were trying to avoid battle and join up with Jasper Tudor's Lancastrian contingents in Wales. Secondly, there are a large number of Scottish "highlander" troops on the Yorkist side in the FOG scenario which I have not come across in my research. Finally, there are issues around some of the leaders in the FOG scenario. Edward IV is only rated "average" while Baron Wenlock is given "superior" status ( ) and Prince Edward (son of Henry VI and Margaret of Anjou) is not represented at all.
