Cavalry break-offs

Post by clivevaughan »

It happened at Usk a couple of times to forget to break off cav from steady foot. In our final game in fact one cav BG was routed by men at arms when it should have broken off. I don't think it's an issue that the rules can resolve, rather it's something fielders of cav need to get used to remembering.

Yes, cavalry break-offs do seem to be hard to remember. However, we feel we should persevere with them because they do allow the rules to model the common historical situation where cavalry/knights made repeated charges on steady foot.

No doubt we will all eventually get used to them and remember to carry them out each time.

The good news is that any cavalry commander has very good incentive to remember so although i did miss a few at first myself, I rapidly got into the swing of it once I had my cavalry commander helmet on properly! :-)

As you have observed it only takes one of your BGs to get mullahed due to forgetting to improve the memory....

Steve and I found the opposite true, pointing out to several opponents that their cavalry could not break off as they had disrupted our infantry and so we were not steady. We then proceeded to out number them in the melee and kill them. Distrupted is not that bad if you have numbers. :)
