Scoring System @ Usk

Post by bddbrown »

Richard asked me to express some thoughts on the scoring system used at Usk.

There was a lot of comment, discussion and debate about the scoring system before and during the tournament. Putting the edge cases aside, I would say that IMO the scores in all the games I was aware of fairly reflected the games outcomes.

Now even though the scoring system favoured my ultra-small 8 BG Ghaznavid army, I think that this was balanced by the fact it was so brittle. I certainly won't be taking that size army to a tournament again (having made my point).

I think it is worth sticking with the scoring system (modified to add granuality for draw splits if need be) until we do see some issues emerge in real play. It's simplicity is worth it.

I think the scoring system worked. We didn't have any scores that didn't fairly represent the state of the game at the finish time....though JD/Terry were very lucky with a rally test......

Certainly the "last pair of bounds" needs to end before the Inter-Bound. It is counter-productive to allowing rallying at the end of the game. (Note that the normal defeat rules occur at the start of the Inter-bound for this reason - so as not to unnecessarily prolong the game). You were robbed.

yes, we were robbed......but the rallying happened in their interbound phase, and we had the last mood, so not robbed for that reason ;)
