Bursting through

Post by deadtorius »

We had an odd situation in our game today, my pike and shot unit broke (it was a combined unit so had an extra 2 pike bases in it so was extra wide) in melee. As luck would have it I rolled a 6 for VMD which caused them to run through a regular 6 base pike and shot unit that was behind them. I could not shift to avoid friends, so I had to burst through them.
My VMD would have put my move right on top of the second row of Pike and shot bases of the burst through unit. We looked it up in the rules but it does not specify if the routers should end their move in front of their friends or be placed behind them.

We left them out front of the burst through unit who still lost cohesion for being burst through.
Should they have been placed behind or was it right to leave them in front? :?

The answer is the burst through rules in the General Movement section (p68), right after the rules on normal interpenetrations. They are placed beyond the burst-through BG.

Thanks Mike, we looked at the evade section. So it is similar to A/M after all.
Not that it mattered as I lost the game next turn as 3/4 of my forces were routing off table. :(

That's actually rather comforting, compared with losing on attrition points when tactically you are poised for a crushing victory.
