shooting dices

Post by bawawa »

Hi everybody,
Let's consider a BG of 4 mounted carbins 2 files formation with exactly one file in front of one enemy BG and the other file in front of another enemy BG, both in shooting range.
About the shooting dices :
1/Should we first consider the carbins BG firepower (number of dices) then split the dices: first rank 2 dices + second rank 1 dice, so 3 dices, one on each ennemy BG and the third one you choose on which BG you shoot.
Or....
2/Should we consider first target priority, and we have : left file shoots on left enemy BG with one dice for first rank, no for the second rank...and same for the right side : shooting on the right enemy BG with one dice for the first rank and none for the second ....in that case one dice is lost !
Thanks a lot !

If as you say your shooting would be split between both enemy BGs meaning you get no dice

The dice is lost. The logic being that split fire is deemed to be less efficient.

Since the rear rank shoots at the same target as the front rank, it can't be re-allocated to shoot at another target (p107).

It's an understandable point of confusion because there is language about allocating dice among two targets on page 120. That, however, applies to allocating the "loss" of dice due to reductions caused by disruption, disorder, being light troops, etc.

But if I have:

1BG shooting at target A with 1.5 dice

and

another BG also shooting at target A with 1.5 dice

I then have 3 dice at target A, yes?

And the logic is that converging fire is effective.
